Welcome to Cruiser Connection

Welcome to the Cruiser Connection.  We hope to post fairly regularly and keep you updated on our travels over the next almost 4 months.  Although we have been thinking about making this trip "someday" for several years, we started making reservations and concrete plans in early January when it was snowing and blowing outside.  In early April we were able to make the final campground reservations, for the National Parks in the Canadian Rockies.  Now we are within days of leaving and we are in the middle of getting the truck and trailer ready to go, as well as getting food, clothes, and other miscellaneous things we will need gathered up and packed.  We have made several trips about 4 weeks long over the years, so we have many lists.  But we’ve never been gone this long in one stretch.  We’re just trying to look at it as 4 continuous trips!

Our Home Away From Home

The Big Trip 2014 as its come to be known will start with a trip cross country to California to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, then on to Yosemite National Park, (a place Dale has always wanted to visit).  San Fransisco is next, with Katy flying out to join us for the California coast portion of the trip.  A few days south to Monterey, then up the coast of California to Crescent City, with some stops along the way to spend time along the beaches of the Pacific Ocean.  Katy returns to WI and we go on to Crater Lake National Park in OR, then back out to and up the Oregon Coast.   Next it’s inland to Mt Rainier NP, Columbia Gorge, and northeast to Coeur d’Alene Idaho where we will take a bicycle trip on the Hiawatha Trail Rail Trail.  It includes several tunnels (we have our headlamps ready) and tressels.

From there we head north for almost 3 weeks in the Canadian Rockies:  Kootenay, Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper National Parks.  After doing lots of sightseeing, hiking and soaking in various hot springs we head home,  dropping  south through Calgary into Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the UP and home.  Tentative return date is around Sept 20.
We are looking forward to this trip and sharing it with you.
